My First-Hand Experience in Sales

I've been in sales for a long time. I've faced a ton of obstacles. This article sums up common experiences sales reps and business owners face when looking for new clients. Prospecting is a constant thing. Failing to make cold calls, follow up calls or some sort of outreach on a consistent basis, is a huge mistake. Just because its painful, it doesn't mean it shouldn't get done.
Here are some sales tips I will share based on what I've learned during my time in real estate and making B2B cold calls in industries like recruitment, office furniture, cyber security, marketing and more!
1. Zero-in on the call pattern
Every industry and every call campaign will have a unique pattern. Pay attention to what you learn so you can repeat what works and discard what doesn't. For example, does it take 20 "Nos" to hear 1 "Yes?" Does it take 2 voice messages or 5 to get to the answer you are looking for from a prospect? Finally, what are most people saying about your offering over the phone? By paying close attention to responses, you can modify the script or approach an entirely different audience.
2. Harness the power of discipline
It isn't easy hearing the word, "No." Does this mean you shouldn't keep asking? Sales prospecting is a numbers game. But more than that, it is a discipline game. Whoever sticks it out the longest will likely succeed. You are competing with yourself everyday. I push myself to get better and better. I stick with it everyday. Sales requires discipline and consistency. Overtime you will learn what works for your particular industry sector. It's all about repetition.
3. Energize your mind with success
Although motivation is fleeting, I still find it useful to listen to podcasts and influencers that charge up my energy. This works for me. In no way am I suggesting you to do the same. What I am saying is to pick something that works for you. Maybe its music, the gym or art. Whatever charges up your energy will make you a powerhouse over the phone with prospects. There will be good days and bad ones. Those individuals that stick with it, win. It's just that simple.
There are many hurdles salespeople and entrepreneurs will face. Enjoying what you do is what will keep your fire going. Keep your energy up. Take breaks to regroup. But never ever give up! Sales never stops.
